Flu hygiene campaign returns

Flu hygiene campaign returns

The Government's 'Catch it. Bin it. Kill it' campaign has been re-launched as a result of the rising levels of flu. The campaign encourages people always to use tissues to catch their coughs and sneezes, to dispose of used tissues as soon as possible and to wash their hands as soon as they can afterwards to prevent the transfer of germs. It will run for approximately three weeks and will consist of national press, radio, video on demand and digital advertising.

Data published by Public Health England (PHE) shows that GP visits and hospital admissions for flu are higher this winter compared with the last three seasons, although they have not reached the high levels recorded in 2008-09 and 2010-11. Furthermore, while 70 per cent of people aged over 65 have been vaccinated against flu this season, less than half of under-65s in at-risk groups and just 43 per cent of pregnant women have received their NHS flu jab.
