An innovative new drug-free treatment using nanotechnology has launched for the management of joint pain in osteoarthritis (OA).
Flexiseq is a topical gel containing a type of phospholipid (lubricating molecules found naturally in joints) called sequessomes, which penetrate the skin and replenish lost lubrication in arthritic joints. As Flexiseq has a physical mode of action rather than a chemical one, there are no known systemic side effects or drug interactions.
It has been shown in clinical trials to relieve pain and improve joint flexibility when applied twice daily. Flexiseq has been available since December through Lloydspharmacy branches and the Arthritis Research UK online shop, with a contribution of the sale price raising over £400,000 for the charity.
