Over 90 per cent of community pharmacies in the UK have been rated satisfactory under the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)'s new inspection model, according to a survey by Pharmacy Voice. Ninety-six per cent of pharmacies inspected between November 2013 and March 2014 achieved a satisfactory rating, while just one per cent were rated poor. However, just three per cent were considered to be good.
The percentage of pharmacies deemed satisfactory slipped slightly to 92 per cent for inspections between May and July 2014, while pharmacies graded good crept up to six per cent. Just one pharmacy €“ Wicker Pharmacy in Sheffield €“ has so far been judged as excellent by the GPhC. Wicker Pharmacy managing director Martin Bennett said: €I'm really proud that our staff have received the official recognition they deserve.€ The GPhC has stressed that the inspection model process is still in development and a consultation will be held to highlight the problem areas.
