New database for compliance aids

New database for compliance aids

UK Medicines Information (UKMi) has launched a medicines compliance aid database to advise pharmacy staff on the suitability of transferring medicines into multi-compartment compliance aids (MCAs).

The open access database makes recommendations based on the physico-chemical stability and characteristics of each medicine and formulation, information from manufacturers, and data on MCA storage. Pharmacy staff can search the database for medicines using the generic or brand names, although most entries are based on the brand leader. Each product is given a traffic light colour-coded UKMi recommendation as to whether it is suitable to be placed in a MCA or not. UKMi recommend using the database alongside the Royal Pharmaceutical Society's Guidance Improving patient outcomes through the better use of multi-compartment compliance aids.
