Pharmacy seeks political support

Pharmacy seeks political support

Pharmacy leaders are calling on politicians to champion community pharmacy with the launch of the 2015 Community Pharmacy Manifesto.

Published by Pharmacy Voice, PSNC, the Independent Pharmacy Federation and the All Party Pharmacy Group, the manifesto calls on MPs to sign up to five key pledges:

1. Encourage patients to think 'pharmacy first' to relieve pressure on GPs and A&E

2. Improve commissioning of pharmacy services and back more national services

3. Raise public awareness of pharmacy's accessibility and support

4. Promote better use of community pharmacy for patients with long-term conditions

5. Help pharmacists get access to the records and information they need to provide more effective and safer patient care.

Rob Darracott, Pharmacy Voice chief executive urged pharmacy teams to encourage their local MPs to visit their pharmacy and support the manifesto. He said: €As the general election approaches, we believe that the role and value of community pharmacy needs to be raised up the political agenda.€
