George Osborne has committed to increase investment in the NHS in the Autumn Spending Review, but warned of a continued struggle to meet the £22 billion funding gap.
Mr Osborne announced that the NHS would receive £6 billion of additional funding up-front next year, at the same time as proposing cuts to public health budgets and emphasising the need for healthcare providers to deliver better value in line with the Five Year Forward View.
In response, Pharmacy Voice (PV) has called on the Government to recognise the value and potential of the community pharmacy network.
In a statement, PV said: €With the right changes to policy and practice, community pharmacy teams could help to radically improve the value and effectiveness of the medicines that are paid for by the NHS and reduce demand for higher cost services.€
Both PV and PAGB have criticised the proposed public health cuts, due to their potential impact on important services like stop smoking.
