Every day and everywhere from London to Los Angeles, pharmacy technicians hold healthcare together – supporting pharmacists, protecting patients, and keeping their pharmacies running. But October 20 is a particularly special day this year because it’s World Pharmacy Technician Day.
“World Pharmacy Technician Day is about changing mindsets. It’s about reminding patients, pharmacists, and technicians themselves of the real value you bring to every shift, every prescription, every patient,” says Mike Johnston, founder and CEO of the National Pharmacy Technician Association (NPTA), which is based in the United States.
“At NPTA, we see you – the skill, the compassion, and the resilience you show in one of the toughest roles in healthcare,” Mike adds. “On October 20, we celebrate you: not only for what you do, but for who you are.”
Ways to celebrate
There are lots of ways to recognise and celebrate the pharmacy technicians in your team, but here is some NPTA inspiration for you:
• Host a recognition moment: a quick huddle, certificate, or shout-out on the floor goes a long way.
• Set up a patient appreciation board: let patients leave a note for the techs who take care of them.
• Say thank you: personalised cards, a team lunch, a genuine word — recognition is respect.
