Superdrug launches first sexual health literacy campaign

Superdrug has partnered with sexual health charity, Brook, in bringing a new sexual health campaign to the high street.

In line with Sexual Health Week (9-15 September), Superdrug has announced the launch of its sexual health literacy campaign in partnership with sexual health charity Brook. The campaign, ‘Reclaim the Name’ seeks to educate the public on the correct anatomical terms for sexual organs. This comes after research showed the need to use the correct names for genitalia to help the public access and communicate their sexual health concerns. The campaign also hopes that encouraging correct naming of body parts like the vulva and penis will reduce the stigma surrounding discussing sexual health.

There will be a new section of Superdrug’s website entitled ‘Reclaim the Name’ where customers will find comprehensive and essential information, guides and blogs are sexual health literacy and sexual health in general, with support from Brook. Superdrug will also be removing the VAT from their Own Brand sexual health products; condoms, lube and massage gel. The reduction in price will make these products the most affordable on the high street, and are hoped to encourage sexual health safety and awareness.

Superdrug’s Chief Commercial Officer, Simon Comins, commented: “This campaign and the actions we’re taking, including piloting high street sexual health advice clinics and removing the VAT from key sexual health products, will hopefully go some way in breaking down these barriers and help people feel more comfortable in taking control of their sexual health.”
