Let's look inside: Flarin

Berin Kan Kemer, head of consumer & healthcare marketing at Infirst, gives us an insight into Flarin

What is Flarin?

Flarin is a unique and patented lipid formulation of ibuprofen. It is an analgesic and is available in both GSL and P formats as follows:

Flarin Joint & Muscular Pain Relief 200mg Soft Capsules (GSL Line 12 capsules and 16 capsules) is indicated for the relief of rheumatic or muscular pain, joint pain, back pain, neuralgia, migraine, headache, dental pain, period pain, feverishness and cold and flu symptoms.

Flarin 200mg Soft Capsules (P line – 30 capsules and 12 capsules) is indicated for the relief of rheumatic or muscular pain, joint pain, back pain, also for the relief of pain of non-serious arthritic conditions, caused by swelling, stiffness and inflammation of joints. It can also be used for the relief of neuralgia, dental pain, period pain, feverishness and cold and flu symptoms.

What are its benefits?

Flarin capsules are manufactured in a different way to liquid capsules. Rather than dissolving ibuprofen in liquid, the ibuprofen is formulated with lipids which are absorbed differently. We refer to this unique formulation as Lipid Lock® Technology. Flarin’s patented Lipid Lock® technology encases ibuprofen in lipids (Glycerol Monolinoleate and hard fat which are long chain fatty acids from a vegetable source) through a complex manufacturing process. Flarin is the first and only ibuprofen product with this Lipid Lock® formulation. Flarin lipid formulated ibuprofen (1200mg/day) has been shown to be as effective as twice the dose (2400mg/day) of standard ibuprofen for reducing joint pain. For more information, please see the FLARE study on our HCP website: hcp.flarin.co.uk.

How does it work?

The Lipid Lock® formulation helps Flarin to travel through the stomach and into the small intestine where it is absorbed, allowing it to be transported around the body to the sites of pain and inflammation. At these sites the body produces chemicals called prostaglandins as part of the response to injury and strain. They cause inflammation which leads to swelling, pain and stiffness. Flarin works by inhibiting the production of prostaglandins to bring effective relief from joint pain.

What is the recommended dosage?

Take one or two capsules (200mg – 400mg), up to three times a day as required. Leave at least four hours between doses and do not take more than 1200mg (six capsules) in any 24-hour period.
