The GPhC is the regulator for pharmacy technicians, pharmacists and pharmacy premises. Its role is to ensure that health and safety of patients and the public is protected in relation to pharmacy professionals. Its responsibility is to uphold standards and public trust in pharmacy and it does this in a number of ways, principally by setting and maintaining standards in relation to pharmacy professionals and pharmacy.
In May 2017, the GPhC launched new standards for pharmacy professionals – the cornerstone of pharmacy professionals’ practice. These standards set out what is expected of pharmacy technicians and pharmacists in order to maintain public trust and confidence in the profession. The standards inform practice and are integral in delivering safe, effective and quality care. They must be followed at all times.
