In demographically diverse areas, communication barriers can be difficult to overcome, but Ashley Campbell was determined to find a solution for the patients of Boots UK’s store in Victoria Road, Glasgow

She has questions printed out in different languages so she and her team can communicate with anyone who comes in the door, and this was just one aspect that led to the dispensing assistant winning a highly commended in the Outstanding Contribution category at the Recognition of Excellence (RoE) Awards.

Ashley is quick to spot and manage a whole range of customer needs, for example, helping a man experiencing mental health problems by talking him down from his plans of suicide. 

RoE judge and Boots UK senior manager for professional learning and development Richard Dunne commented: “Ashley shows how the impact our colleagues can have on our patients is profound and life changing.” Fellow judge and Avicenna chief executive Salim Jetha was in complete agreement calling Ashley “a fantastic all rounder”.
