Samantha Gillatt is someone who “goes the extra mile for every patient”, says her pharmacist manager Alexandra Gheorghita

A trained stop smoking advisor, Samantha helped more than 20 smokers quit in 2019, but her talents extend even further. “This year, she is helping a lady on a weight loss journey by bringing her own Weight Watchers scales from home every week, and offering moral support, written materials and cooking inspiration. This lady has almost lost two stone with Samantha’s help and she is on her way to being approved for knee surgery,” says Alexandra.

The Langold Pharmacy team has a Facebook page to promote their services and they display notices in the nearby GP surgery. Samantha works hard to promote these on a daily basis, too, so that all patients benefit from services that are appropriate for them. She is also keen to maintain positive relationships with customers by offering a good chat and, when the rules allow it, a hug. “You can tell when people need that extra bit of attention,” says Samantha. 

For the judges, Samantha’s personal touch was a perfect example of patient-centred care. “Samantha exemplifies what it means to work in community pharmacy,” says Steve Howard, superintendent pharmacist at LloydsPharmacy. Samantha recieved highly commended in the Healthy Living Advisor category.
