Outstanding Contribution Award
Highly Commended
It is pharmacy adviser, Alison Daniels’, dedication to her career at Boots – which spans 40 years – which led to her being nominated for the Outstanding Contribution Award by her store manager, Bethlyn North. “The pharmacy has gone through a lot in the past six months and Alison has been the only constant in the store,” says Bethlyn. “Alison worked above and beyond her working hours without complaining. She also delivered to patients outside of work in her free time. The store wouldn’t be running without her.”
Alison started working at Boots soon after she left school at the age of 15. After brief stints in the staff canteen, window dressing and the photo department she made the move to healthcare 20 years ago. “The manager of the store asked me if there was anything else I fancied learning and I had already been helping out in the pharmacy,” she explains. “So, I did the healthcare training and I went into the dispensary.”
Now Alison has been working in this particular Boots store for the past six years. As Bethlyn explained, her role is doing a little bit of everything, always ensuring she can be on hand to help. “I’m just generally on the shop floor and dispensing,” she says. “We all take a role in it all… We’re very much part of the community. I think they’d be lost without us!”
“Local health systems are built on dedication and clinical excellence of individuals like Alison,” says Ade Williams MBE, RoE judge and lead pharmacist at Bedminster Pharmacy. “Her understated appreciation of her value only amplifies her dedication to community pharmacy.”
