RPS champions peer review

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) has built up a threeway approach for pharmacists to develop themselves and be recognised and reviewed by peers, said Catherine Duggan, RPS director of professional development and support, at the Pharmacy Show.

The news comes as the General Pharmaceutical Council consults on the changing requirements for pharmacists demonstrating continuing fitness to practice. It is hoped that the new assessment structure supports and guides RPS members through the new regulatory process and ensures faculty membership covers these requirements.

The three-way approach consists of a portfolio mapping out competencies, a CV and other evidence demonstrating depth of practice, and peer assessment. “We have some peer assessment through the whole process of getting your faculty credentials, but also an opportunity for some peers to pay testimonials to you... [Giving people] the opportunity to feed back on how you have worked with them has proved hugely empowering,” Ms Duggan added.
