GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) is committed to assisting pharmacy teams with the self care agenda through a multi-avenue campaign with the aim of sustaining a shift in the behaviours of the nation – getting people to think pharmacy first and help to reduce unnecessary visits to the GP and A&E in the long term, the company explains. Among other strategies, GSK is supporting softer skills training to support healthcare professionals in delivering consultations to patients during the Covid-19 pandemic, and changing its social media strategy to tailor its content to the needs of healthcare professionals. In addition, the GSK Health Partner Portal provides access to downloadable Covid-19 support toolkits, training and point of sale ordering.
The ‘Mind Your Back’ self care campaign from Mentholatum is running throughout October and November to help people manage their back pain and raise awareness of its five S.T.E.P.S. for management: stretch, therapy, exercise, posture and strengthen. During the campaign, exercises will be demonstrated live by influencers to encourage the target audience – workers over 45 and pregnant women still at work – to adopt the S.T.E.P.S. at home. For the therapy step, viewers will be reminded that Mentholatum’s Deep Heat, Deep Freeze and Deep Relief topical analgesics can be used for targeted pain relief, the company explains. In response to updated MHRA guidance for over-the-counter stimulant laxatives, Care has reclassified its Senna products from the brand’s stomach and bowel range, says manufacturer Thornton & Ross. The newly-named Care Senna 7.5mg Tablets Adult are now available in packs of 20 as a GSL product, and Care Senna 7.5mg Tablets 12 Years Plus are available in packs of 60 and 100 as pharmacy-only. Both products are herbal medicinal products containing senna pods and can be taken orally for the short-term relief of occasional constipation, exclusively based on long-standing use as a traditional remedy, explains the company. Care Senna is suitable for children over 12 years, adults and the elderly.

Care has launched the latest edition of its handbook, The Ultimate Guide to Care, with new features including quick-scan product barcodes and a brand comparison section, says manufacturer Thornton & Ross.
