BOOST
Using feedback models such as this make it easier to provide and receive balanced feedback in a supportive, rather than critical, manner.
The BOOST method
Ensure you cover positive and less positive points.
Ensure feedback is based on what you have actually seen, not just reports from others.
Base your feedback on actions and behaviours, not on someone’s personality.
Relate your feedback to specific examples.
Ensure feedback is given as close to the event as possible.
Feedback that is critical or attacking, unbalanced, and focused only on areas for improvement or a one-way discussion with no opportunity to offer personal reflections, may result in feelings of anger, defensiveness or upset, and the feedback may be rejected.
