Pendleton's Rules model

Pharmacy technicians often have the responsibility of managing the pharmacy team, to ensure that their performance and behaviour meets the required standards and the needs of the workplace. Providing feedback and setting goals or objectives for yourself and members of your team plays a crucial role in improving performance.

Consider the Pendleton’s Rules model1 of feedback:

  • Ask the individual receiving feedback to describe what went well
  • Tell them about any further points that went well that they did not mention
  • Ask them to describe what they would do differently
  • Tell them what else they could do differently that they did not mention
  • Summarise the key points of what went well and what they could do differently
  • Ask them to summarise what their action plan is (with SMART objectives) to develop or improve their practice.
