CPPE on... Training

Funded training is now available across England for an online accuracy checking pharmacy technician programme and registration is now open, says CPPE

The pharmacy landscape is changing as new care models lead the profession into wider integration within the NHS. Pharmacy technicians are perfectly placed to work within the wider multidisciplinary team and develop their confidence and knowledge base to provide excellent person-centred care.

The online accuracy checking pharmacy technician (ACPT) programme, funded by the Pharmacy Integration Fund, is designed to equip pharmacy technicians with the knowledge, skills and behaviours to safely and effectively undertake the final accuracy check of dispensed items.

To be completed in three to 12 months, the programme consists of six core knowledge online learning modules, followed by a series of practice-based activities to build on the knowledge gained through this learning, develop leadership skills and enable the trainee to apply learning in the workplace.

Key features:

  • Free to access for pharmacy technicians in community pharmacy settings
  • Rolling application process with monthly courses, so no lengthy wait to access learning
  • Flexible, online learning that fits around business needs
  • Trainee-led learning, supported by CPPE
  • Workplace-based activities (no external study days)
  • Contributes to the development of processes to identify and support reduction of errors.

Benefits:

  • Improves knowledge, skills and awareness of best practice
  • Frees up pharmacist time, increasing capacity to deliver commissioned services
  • Optimises skills mix of the team, supporting staff development and retention.

Pharmacy technicians at all community pharmacies in England can apply and there are two cohorts left: February and March 2019. Funding from the Pharmacy Integration Fund is timelimited and places are allocated on a first come, first served basis (subject to verifi cation processes). Applications will be accepted until the end of the preceding month (i.e. February 2019 applications will be accepted up to 31 January 2018) and until all places have been filled.
