Recognition of Excellence 2020
Hannah Rewcastle
When she started out as a customer assistant at Boots, Hannah Rewcastle never dreamed she would build such a fulfilling career in pharmacy
However, personal drive and ambition helped her qualify with distinction as a pharmacy technician. But her work goes beyond this and throughout her pharmacy career, she’s also volunteered for a search and rescue team. “We work with Sussex Police in the search for vulnerable missing people and are on call 24/7 and 365 days a year,” explains Hannah.
This experience has helped to enrich her knowledge of mental health conditions and dementia. “Being in the team has enabled me to understand how people are feeling and how best to help them,” Hannah says. “Customers are coming into our pharmacy asking for help, rather than visiting their GP. I love helping customers, and leaving at the end of the day knowing that I have helped someone is the best feeling.”
Hannah’s dedication and compassion shone through in her Outstanding Contribution Award entry, gaining her some fantastic judges’ comments, including this from Richard Dunne, senior manager professional learning and development at Walgreens Boots Alliance: “Her passion to support her pharmacy patients alongside the amazing work she does with police and search and rescue is a testament to every colleague in pharmacy. We are humbled by your actions and proud to have you in our profession.” Hannah recieved highly commended for the Outstanding Contribution Award.
