Recognition of Excellence 2020

Lucy Crockford

Dispensing assistant Lucy Crockford caught the eyes of the judges thanks to her involvement in Seafront Pharmacy’s ‘Triage + Treat’ service

This service helps members of the public who come to the pharmacy in Tenby, Pembrokeshire, with minor first aid issues, such as small cuts or broken skin. “It’s a useful service, particularly for patients who can’t administer first aid themselves, like the elderly,” says Lucy. “We can deal with the issue straight away. We have to use our judgment to decide whether we can treat the issue ourselves or whether we need to refer.”

Pharmacist Steven McMorran, who nominated Lucy for the Service Excellence Award, has been impressed by the active role that she plays in providing vital pharmacy services in the community. “Lucy went beyond the scope of the job to be one of the first ‘triage and treat’ trained pharmacy staff members so our pharmacy could offer the new local advanced service to support our community and patients,” he says.

Acknowledging this, RoE judge and senior manager professional learning and development at Walgreens Boots Alliance Richard Dunne adds: “Lucy shows how the role beyond the pharmacy can change patients’ lives by supporting her local community and visitors with the triage and treat service.” Lucy recieved highly commended in the Service Excellence category.
